Benefits of Wind Energy

1 November 2011 No Comment

Wind energy is the technology that uses the power of the wind to propel wind mills and wind turbines and then converting it to electricity. Unlike power plants, Wind energy does not pollute the air to be able to generate energy. This power source does not produce atmospheric emissions that cause acid rain or greenhouse gases. Wind energy is commonly used in places like the United States and Australia. Energy generated from the wind is one the lowest priced renewable energy available today because they costs only between 4 to 6 cents per kilowatt-hour, depending on the wind available in the area.

The best places to get energy from are wind farms in coastal areas, at the top of rounded hills, open plains, and gaps in the mountains. It is most certain that the wind here is strong and reliable to propel the wind turbines. The technology for using wind energy is growing fast. It’s been the fastest growing renewable energy in the world for it has an average annual growth rate of over 20%. That growth has been going on for more than a decade already!

Benefits of Using Wind Energy

Save up on energy costs
Costs currently associated with the production of gas, coal or oil are expected to increase in the years to come, but there is no forecast like that when it comes to the energy costs of converting wind energy to electricity. Wind energy is cost competitive to other fuel resources and is the least expensive of all renewable energy resources. Also, since the fuel which is the wind is free, there is the possibility of a stable long-term price for its production.

Clean Energy!
We all know that global warming is a big issue nowadays with the weather getting more more unpredictable and likewise more extreme. Unlike other conventional producers of energy, wind energy does not contribute to global warming. Another thing, since there is less carbon dioxide released into the air, there are lesser health risks acquired through means of inhaling disease-causing agents.

Availability
Wind is everywhere! It just depends on how much is in one location. Some places that tend to be higher in altitude would generally have more wind available to be utilized. That’s why the best places to put wind farms are near the coast and places wherein there are strong gusts of wind blowing every now and then.

Reliability and Efficiency
Wind energy systems require minimal maintenance and they aren’t expensive when it comes to operating either. Wind turbines are available to generate electricity 99% of the time.
